Oral History

From the very beginning, oral history has been a key role performed by the Highlands Historical Society.  Conducting, recording and  transcribing interviews has always been regarded as an important means to preserving Highlands’ memories.

As a result of our efforts, the City of Edmonton Archives now houses rich primary information about the personalities, families, important events, and everyday life as they contribute to the history, culture, and heritage that is the neighbourhood of the Highlands. These oral histories provide different perspectives that can often not be found in the written accounts of historians.

Still, there are many more stories out there to preserve!  And, we are looking for volunteers to help us.  As a volunteer, you will collect people’s stories through short, audio interviews. Or you could volunteer to share your stories.  Please be in touch with your suggestions on how you could contribute to the Oral History Program of the Highlands Historical Society.
