Concordia University of Edmonton 2025 Time Capsule

In 1925 a tradition began when a copper time capsule was placed in the cornerstone of Concordia’s Schwermann Hall.  The time capsule was removed and opened this summer.  Its historic contents were in pristine condition and the many fascinating items revealed Concordia’s traditions, academics, history and significant place in Edmonton and in Highlands.

This October a group of Concordia students and staff, as well as members of Highlands Historical Society, met to discuss what items to place in the next time capsule.

On October 17, 2025, a Time Capsule Celebration was held on the University’s front lawn, and the new time capsule was sealed and returned to the cornerstone of Concordia’s Schwermann Hall, to be opened in 2125!

Highlands Historical Society was well represented at the Time Capsule Celebration and in the time capsule itself.  Vice President Bill Pick shared greetings from the society at the celebration, and a copy of our Walking Tour booklet and Magrath Mansion book were both enclosed in the time capsule.

And so, the tradition continues of honouring the University’s legacy and looking toward the future.  Highlands Historical Society is proud to be part of this legacy!
