Wednesday, October 11, at 7:00 pm, Speaker Series with John McDougall.  His presentation will be “Around the World from Edmonton in 1906”.  This event will be held at Highlands United Church.  Free for HHS members.  $5 for non-members.

Sunday, July 23, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, At Home event for members only at the Spanish-inspired home at 11226 – 60 Street.  This free event is for HHS members ONLY.  No memberships will be sold at the event.

Saturday, July 8, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, Open House at Magrath Mansion.  This event is held in conjunction with Concordia University Edmonton as part of Historic Festival and Doors Open Edmonton.  Pre-registration is not required.  Cost is $15 for members and non-members.  Children under 12 are free. The tour is self-guided with knowledgeable hosts.  The home is not wheel-chair accessible and children must be closely supervised.

Saturday, May 6, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, the Highlands Historical Society will host a “Spring Pop Up” information table in downtown Highlands.  Please invite your neighbours and friends to join us, learn more about the Highlands Historical Society, and enjoy a guided walking tour of Historic Highlands at 2:30 pm.  Cost of the tour is $5.  We hope to see you there!

The Highlands Historical Society has invited John McDougall to share a fascinating piece of his family history: “Driving the Pacific Northwest, 1916”. This event is free but please note there is a parking fee of $3.50.  Open to members and non-members.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Saturday, October 1, 1-4pm:  You are Highlands History!  McLuhan House,11342 – 64 St. Free Event.  Did you grow up in the Highlands?  Would you like to share some of your favourite Highlands memories?  Come and share an anecdote, photo or story with us!  There will be a photo display.  Light refreshments will be available.  Open to members and non-members.  Your story matters: please come and share it!

Saturday, August 13, 1 – 4pm:  At Home at the Tocher House, offered exclusively for members of the Highlands Historical Society.  The Tocher House, located at 11112 – 62 St., is a Highlands bungalow built in the 1950s, home of the Tocher family for more than 35 years.

October 2, 7-8:30 pm: Speaker Series: “Highlanders before the Highlands” – Dylan Reade, Filmmaker, will tell the story of the Long Lake (Kinokamau) Metis settlement of the 1860s and early 1870s.  Learn the surprising and little-known background of the Gullion, Borwick, and Fraser families in the years before they became the first settlers in what is now Edmonton’s Highlands. September 14, 11 am-7 pm. VIP Wagon TourThe Highlands Historical Society presents “VIP Wagon Tour” on Saturday, September 14, 2019 featuring Fox Burger and Be-a-Bella. For the first time ever, we are offering VIP experiences with a “Family tour” (welcoming families with young ones) and a night out with the “Date Night Package.” Date Night Package: $35/person for members, $45/person for non-members; Family Tour: $20/person.

July 1-7, 11 am-1 pm: Edmonton Historic Festival and Doors Open – Tours in the HighlandsTo celebrate Edmonton Historical Week, we will be hosting a classic walking tour of the neighborhood, as well as TWO bus tours this year! Come take a stroll under the swooping elm trees as you learn the history of our neighborhood, accompanied by knowledgeable local tour guides. Walking Tour: $5; Bus Tour: $10

June 1, 11 am-1 pm: Urban Sketchers Edmonton Come to Highlands: Join us and try your hand at sketching with Edmonton’s Historian Laureate, Marlena Wyman, starting at 11 am in front of the Owen Residence at 11227-63 Street.  (Rain out, Highlands Junior High). This event is free.

November 24, 1-3 pm: Annual General Meeting. Highlands Community League Hall at  6112 113 avenue. Editor of the James Bond Steele Diaries, Melanie Moore, will present highlights from the HHS’s latest book. Join us for refreshments and networking.

October 11, 6 – 9 pm: Highlands Golf Course. HHS 30th Anniversary Celebration and Launch of our new book: James Bond Steele: Diaries of a One-Room Schoolteacher 1885-1891. Includes food, fun and entertainment. Click here for more information!

September 18, 7-8:30 pm: How to Research the History of Your Home @ Highlands Library, 6710 118 Ave. Offered for homeowners in the Highlands Community who are interested in learning about getting a plaque for their home (if it is more than 50 years old.) 

September 12, 7-8:30 pm: Talk by Kristine Reid of the Olde Towne Beverly Historical Society on the topic of Coal Mining in Beverly and the Highlands @ the Highlands Library, 6710-118 Avenue. Free for HHS Members. $5.00 Non-members
