Did you plant a tree in the Highlands?

For over 60 years, the Alberta Government has gifted tree seedlings to grade one students, to mark Forest Week in our province. Forest Week runs in the first week of May, and the tree seedling program promotes environmental conservation and stewardship. A grade 8 student and an educator have teamed up to map the locations of these trees, with the Alberta Grade 1 Tree Register. The HHS is encouraging current and former Highlands residents to register their trees on this website, which contains an interactive map with information on each tree, including species, description, and the year planted. It’s easy to record your tree’s details – visit https://www.grade1tree.ca/. Trees of all ages are welcome to the register. The youngest sapling is 3 months old!
